Places … but no prizes for Eldergate duo

The National Badminton Centre hosted the area round of the International Speech and Evaluation contests on Saturday 16 March. After the judges’ scores had been counted, Ian Haynes finished runner-up to Gayna Cooper (Bedford Speakers) in the Speech contest while Trisha Page was placed 3rd in the Evaluation event.

There was also some reflected glory for Eldergate. John Schell, the winner of the evaluation contest, and Mick Proctor, placed 3rd in the Speech contest, both began their Toastmaster journeys at Eldergate before moving on to Cranfield and North Bucks respectively. John prevented Gayna from making a clean sweep of both contests: they both go on to the Divisional contests next month.

These will be held at the Hemmingford Abbots Golf and Conference Centre, Cambridgeshire on Saturday 13 April. It should be well worth the journey.

Thanks to all those Eldergate members (Beverly, Chris, Jenny, John, Phil and Sarinder) who helped out as judges, timekeepers and counters and also provided great support for all the contestants. Perhaps some of you will have been inspired to enter the club contests next year?
