13 people, including 2 guests, attended last Wednesday’s meeting which had the theme of ‘the British Royal Family’.
Paul as Sergeant at Arms opened the meeting. Emily as Toastmaster gave an overview of the agenda, theme and format of the evening.
Grammarian Jim introduced the word of the day (majestic) which nicely reflected the meeting’s theme. Richard counted grunts, giving feedback in good humour. Laura kept time, John was Topics Evaluator, Maissa was Joke Master and Jim was General Evaluator.
Kala as Table Topics Master followed the meeting’s theme for Table Topics, asking the audience to respond to different scenarios as if they were a member of the Royal Family, to practice thinking on their feet.
Jim was first up as Prince William, gamely playing along with Kala in a comedic discussion about the royal honeymoon. Paul was next up as Prince Harry and put on a fantastic accent which added great humour to the exercise. Dan took on the role of Prince Charles and spoke about the need to find an appropriate boyfriend for Pippa. Louise got into character as Camilla and showed great creative flair when discussing the Royal Yacht, communicating part of her response on the flipchart.
Becky delivered her ninth speech “21st century communications – care to comment?” and was evaluated by Louise.
Dan P delivered his fourth speech “Living forever in the multiverse” and was evaluated by Paul.
Daniel S delivered his sixth speech “In memoriam: A Philips Sanders” and was evaluated by Becky.
The Best Evaluation Award went to Becky.
The Best Speaker Award was shared between Daniel S and Dan P.
The Best Use of Humour Award went to Jim.
The Best Table Topics Award went to Louise.
The First Timer Award went to Emily.
The Club’s President Becky awarded the prizes for the evening and encouraged us to think about the up and coming Humorous Speech and Table Topics contest on Wednesday 26th September.
